Exclusive Interview With Barbara Aleks
What inspired you to start creating content, and how has your focus evolved over time?
I started creating content mostly for fun - a place to share what I was already doing offline: styling women, putting outfits together, and showing how small tweaks can have big results. It began as quick outfit ideas and simple styling tips.
Then lockdown happened, and suddenly I had the time to commit to it. I started posting consistently and eventually moved onto TikTok. That’s when things really grew. I saw how many women wanted practical, real-life style inspiration and guidance that made sense for their day-to-day lives.
As my audience grew, so did my content. I still share outfit inspo and how I style pieces, but I’ve expanded into something bigger with the launch of Curated by Barbara Aleks. Now I also create content around building a curated wardrobe - highlighting pieces that work for everyday life, showing how to combine them, and teaching the logic behind why certain things work together. It’s style, but with support and actual education behind it.
I also share the skincare, beauty, treatments, and lifestyle choices that genuinely help me in my 50’s. I find that women my age (and even those that are younger) want real information from someone who’s actually living it.
Today my content is a mix of style, outfit ideas, curated pieces, wardrobe strategy, and real-life recommendations. It’s practical, honest, and reflects how I live, dress, and take care of myself every day.
How does your age and life experience shape the kind of content you share today?
I’m far more practical in my 50s than I was when I was younger, being smarter and more intentional about my choices and decisions - personally, as a stylist, and as a business owner. I would say my content today reflects this and is even more focused on providing my followers with value and helping make their lives better - whether that’s style- or wardrobe-wise, or through beauty, health, self-care, and longevity.
We’re all here for a short time. Let’s make the most of our lives, looking and feeling our very best, every single day.
What message do you hope to share with women (or men) 45 and older through your platform?
Live your life to its fullest. Make the most of every moment, and do everything you can to look and feel your best. I hope I can offer a little inspiration, advice, or guidance to help you do that.
Through my platform, that shows up in a few different ways:
• Reminding you that style doesn’t end at a certain age, it evolves.
• Showing you how to dress for the life you have now, not the one you had 20 years ago.
• Sharing the skincare, beauty, and wellness things that genuinely work for me.
• Offering realistic, wearable wardrobe solutions that make getting dressed easier.
• Encouraging you to put yourself first, because midlife is not a decline; it’s a reset.
If I can help make your day a little easier, your routine a little smarter, and your style feel a little more you, then I’ve done my job.
What misconceptions about midlife or aging do you want to change through your influence?
I don’t often talk about age when I talk about style because great style has no age. But if I had to, then one misconception I’d love to change is that style has an expiration date. It absolutely doesn’t. Your 40s, 50s, and beyond are the years you finally understand your body, your taste, and your standards. That’s when style gets good. I want women to see that getting dressed can still be exciting, fun, and expressive - without trying to look younger and without pretending to be anything other than who they are now.
Midlife isn’t a slowdown or a decline - in style, in confidence, or in how we show up. It isn’t. Most of us look better, feel better, and know ourselves far more now than we ever did in our 20s or 30s.
I want to show that you can care about style, beauty, health, and how you present yourself at any age, and that it actually gets easier when you know who you are. Aging doesn’t mean letting go. It means getting smarter about what you choose.
Who makes up your core audience, and what kind of community have you built?
My audience is made up of women who care about how they show up - women in their 30s through 70s who want to look good, feel good, and make smart decisions about their style, beauty, and everyday life. They’re not looking for trends or overhauls. They want wearable ideas, and pieces that actually work for the lives, and that look great on.
The community I’ve built is thoughtful, engaged, and genuinely supportive. These are women who ask questions, try things, share their wins, and want to make the most of every day. They appreciate honesty, practicality, and a real point of view. And they come back because they know I’m showing them what I actually use, wear, and believe in.
It’s a community built around real women, real lives, and real solutions, and I’m proud of that.
What topics or types of content resonate most deeply with your audience?
Fashion and style always lead - outfit ideas, how I put pieces together, and the little tips that make getting dressed effortless and have you looking put together. They also love being able to easily click and purchase the items I wear and share. It makes their life so much easier.
Beauty and health content also resonates, especially when I share treatments, products, and routines that actually work for me. Women want real results and honest opinions, and I think they trust that I only share what I personally use.
Overall, anything practical, helpful, and real tends to perform best, whether that's style, beauty, health, and the everyday things that help us look and feel our best.
What are some of your favorite brand collaborations, and what made them successful?
I’ve collaborated with so many great brands - Geox, Banana Republic, Marc Cain, Watier, Stitch Fix, Hair Biology, Estée Lauder - and it’s hard to pick favorites because they’ve all been such strong partners. I only work with brands I love, respect, and would actually use or wear myself.
I think that’s what makes the collaborations successful. I believe in the products, I trust them, and I genuinely love the results I get or how I feel when I wear or use them. My audience can feel that.
How do you decide which brands or partnerships align with your values?
It’s simple for me: if I wouldn’t wear it, use it, or spend my own money on it, I won’t promote it. I only partner with brands I genuinely love, respect, and trust - products that fit my lifestyle, my standards, and what I naturally share with my audience.
I look for quality, consistency, and brands that make sense for the women who follow me. If it’s not something I’d reach for in my own day-to-day life, it’s a no. My audience relies on me to be honest, and the only way to keep that trust is to stay selective.
When I believe in something, the content is effortless and the partnership actually works.
What advice would you give to brands looking to collaborate with creators over 45?
Work with creators who actually use your products and genuinely align with your brand. Women over 45 can spot authenticity a mile away, and so can the creators speaking to them.
Understand that creators in this age range know their audience extremely well. We know what they care about, what they’ll spend money on, and what they’re tired of seeing. Trust that insight.
Also, don’t underestimate the buying power of this demographic. Women 45+ are loyal, engaged, and they invest in quality. If the partnership feels real, they convert.
In short: choose creators who are selective, who value trust with their audience, and who will represent your brand in an honest, thoughtful way. That’s what makes the partnership successful for everyone.
How would you describe your personal content style or aesthetic?
My content style is clean, simple, and practical. Visually, my aesthetic is polished and minimal. Nothing is overly produced or complicated. I want people to see things clearly, understand how I style or use them, and be able to picture how they’d fit into their own lives. It’s all about clarity, usefulness, and showing what genuinely works for me.
What trends do you think brands should pay more attention to when working with mature creators?
There’s a huge rise in midlife creators right now, and brands should be paying attention. Women 40+ are one of the fastest-growing and most trusted segments on social media, and they’re looking for creators who share real-life, practical content, not overproduced ads.
Shoppable, easy-to-buy content is also a big trend. Women 45+ appreciate convenience, so carousels, outfit breakdowns, and clear product links perform extremely well.
Beauty, skincare, haircare, and longevity content are also exploding across all platforms, and mature creators are leading that space because we’re speaking from experience, not theory.
And finally, there’s a shift toward age-positive, confidence-led messaging. People want to feel good, not “fixed.” Mature creators are driving that trend, and brands who embrace it are seeing the strongest results.
What’s it like working with Pro-Age Talent?
I’ve just recently signed with Pro-Age Talent, but so far, it’s been wonderful. The communication has been clear, and supportive, and I already feel like I’m in good hands.
